Who is Austin Hepburn?

I was born in Lankenau Hospital, grew up in North Ardmore and graduated from the Young School for Wee People, with a degree in Zoology.

I attended Penn Valley Elementary School, Saint Aloysius Academy and graduated from The Haverford School. I was a Gamecock in College and a Tarheel in Business School. Five years in finance taught me a lot: that I wanted to start a business, work with my hands to create beauty and value while serving the community.

I love the outdoors, am fascinated with wood and things that can be made with it and think windows and doors are a worthy challenge. New materials like fiberglass, vinyl and PVC are useful substitutes for wood. The challenge is to employ taste and creativity to insure the finished product appeals to the eye. Aluminum cladding can protect wood, proper flashing is essential and “drain to daylight” is a concept I think about with every project. Colors, patterns and context will determine the attractiveness of a finished product. A happy customer is my number one goal.

What Austin Hepburn stands for

I am proud of my business for several reasons:

32 years of service on the Main Line.
  • The Main Line market expects excellent service and excellent workmanship, at a fair price.
  • Respect for the customer and the customer’s house is essential for staying in business.
  • According to Pella I have reached the top of my industry segment as a Pella Certified Contractor at the Platinum Elite level.
  • According to Bill Gates, 10,000 hours focused on a subject makes someone an expert. I am an expert in windows and doors 4X over.

I have mastered window and door installation.
  • I am a master carpenter. I could be a home builder. Instead, I have focused my career on solving problems.  Installing windows and doors is challenging in that moisture intrusion can cause significant problems. I like helping people.
  • I have pioneered “Drain to Daylight” technology using an obscure Pella exterior trim product. Any moisture that would normally collect around a window or door is automatically drained out to the atmosphere. This sets me apart from the rest of my peers.
  • With all the problems associated with moisture and stucco clad homes, my “Drain to Daylight” technology allows moisture to escape. This has saved countless customers from having to replace their stucco.
  • I have studied generally accepted installation procedures, through seminars and training programs, and incorporate those steps in my installations.
  • I have an eye for what looks appropriate, and help my clients choose attractive options. A big part of my income is psychological income, from crafting an artistic solution that is “pleasing to the eye”.
  • Every major window and door manufacturer has approached me about recommending their products. I generally stick with high end brands like Pella. Occasionally, I use locally owned carpentry shops to make custom mahogany doors which I install.

Relationships
Life is about relationships. I enjoy good relationship with Pella Window and Door Company, the people who work for me and especially my customers. I have made life long friendship after installing windows and doors in people’s homes.
